Introducing the Modwave Native Wavetable Synthesizer, a synthesis powerhouse boasting distinctive wavetable timbres, Kaoss Physics, and Motion Sequencing 2.0. Unveiled in 2021, the modwave revitalizes the DW legacy, evolving it into a modern synth monster. With its incredibly deep wavetable oscillators, exquisite filters, flexible modulation options, advanced pattern sequencing, and intuitive macro controls, the modwave delivers unparalleled soundscapes and phrases that are both powerful and effortlessly customizable.
But what exactly is a wavetable? Wavetables consist of sets of single-cycle digital waveforms arranged in a specific order. By manipulating the wavetable’s “position” using envelopes, LFOs, or other modulation sources, users can create subtle or drastic changes in timbre. The modwave offers the versatility to switch abruptly between waveforms or smoothly crossfade between them.
Enhancing the wavetable experience are over 30 Modifiers that allow users to tweak the character of any wavetable upon loading. From isolating odd or even harmonics to adding weight through anti-aliased quantization or saturation, or even revisiting the gritty charm of old-school wavetable synths with options like Vintage 8 & 12, the possibilities are endless.
The 13 Morph Types offer further flexibility, enabling real-time stretching, squeezing, reflecting, and other alterations to wavetables. These Morph Types, when modulated, introduce additional motion into the sound, including classic swept-sync timbres with Sync Morph Type and FM, AM, and Ring Modulation capabilities.
Innovative A/B Blend mode allows for precise blending of two wavetables with phase-synchronous accuracy, creating intermediate waveforms and adding depth or sizzle to timbres. This mode can be modulated in real-time, offering dynamic control over the sound.
Additionally, the modwave seamlessly integrates gigabytes of samples into its oscillators, thanks to KORG’s proprietary anti-aliasing sample playback technology. With contributions from KORG, Airwave, Francis Preve, Plugin Guru, and selections from the Kronos and Krome libraries, users have access to a vast sonic palette. User Sample Banks further expand the possibilities, allowing for the incorporation of custom multisamples from third-party developers.

Known issues
Ableton Live: program changes are slower than expected for VST3 instruments in general, on both Windows and macOS. The slowness appears to be more noticeable for plug-ins with large numbers of automatable parameters, including modwave native. On macOS, we suggest using the AU version of modwave native as a workaround. Ableton is aware of this issue.
