Illustrated Chord Extensions is a visual guide to understanding when, how, and where to use tensions—9ths, 11ths, and 13ths—within a composition. It proposes a clear and progressive journey to add color and character to each chord, starting from mastery of triads and advancing toward a richer and more expressive harmonic palette.
Through creative and innovative diagrams, the restrictions that appear when adding notes become visible, as well as the advantages and disadvantages that each interval can provide in terms of tension, stability, and expressiveness, favoring a conscious and flexible exploration of harmonic language.
The book contains no sheet music: everything is expressed through chord symbols, allowing to focus on harmonic relationships without intermediaries. It is complemented by explanatory videos and four interactive applications that allow to incorporate concepts actively. If you’re looking to take your first steps in chord extensions, this book is definitely for you.
