Prophet V3 by Arturia is a VST (Virtual Studio Technology) Instrument Audio Plugin for Windows. Arturia Prophet V3 runs as a VST Plugin, a SAL Plugin, a VST3 plugin, and an AAX Plugin. Arturia Prophet V3 VST plugin can be used with all major digital audio workstations (DAW) including Live, Logic, Cubase, Pro Tools, and others.

Synth guru Tyler Coffin presents comprehensive Arturia Prophet V tutorials! See and listen to how Arturia has recreated the classic Sequential Circuits synthesizers from the ’80s. Dive deep into both the virtual Prophet 5 and Prophet VS’s features and functions also as the way to make sounds with this dynamic synth duo. These videos are designed for brand spanking new Arturia Prophet V users.

In the world of classic hardware synthesizer emulation, Arturia has always been before the sport. They were the primary to recreate the famed Yamaha CS series, the primary to release a native plug-in version of the ARP 2600, and therefore the first to urge Robert Moog’s blessing to make his synths in software.

Considering the company’s diary, we must confess to being a touch befuddled by the new Arturia Prophet V3. Initially conceived as a spot-on recreation of Sequential Circuits’ venerable Arturia Prophet V3, it has been turbo-charged with a not-so-accurate recreation of an equivalent company’s later vector synth, the Prophet VS.

It’s worth mentioning that reasonable software versions of both instruments exist already. Native Instruments gave us an honest Prophet 5 six years ago, and have since improved it several times. additionally, there is a very accurate just like the Prophet VS within the shape of General Vibe’s Vector Sector.

With all this in mind, it’s hard to not question the necessity for a product like the Arturia Prophet V3. It certainly features a lot to measure up to.

Arturia Prophet V3 may be a cross-platform instrument that runs standalone or as a VST, DX, AU, or RTAS plug-in. It demands a good 1.5GHz CPU, and it can eat up a substantial portion of that processing power.

This is particularly true when operating in hybrid mode, which mixes the Arturia Prophet V3 and Prophet VS instruments together.

We’re not thrilled to report that some hybrid chords spent to 69% of the resources of our dual 2GHz G5 Power Mac… and that is once we were using the Arturia Prophet V3 standalone!

We were unable to play even a note or two of certain hybrid patches while using the instrument as a plug-in (in Cubase SX 3), which isn’t good.

Arturia Prophet V3 is copy protected via a Syncrosoft USB dongle. In fact, you cannot even try the demo without installing the dongle.

If you do not have one, Arturia will gladly sell you one and reimburse you upon the demo’s expiration, but our suspicion is that few non-Syncrosoft users will bother. We even have to mention that the dongle crashed the Arturia Prophet V3 on our Mac on quite one occasion.

Arturia Prophet V3 Sounds

When you first open the Arturia Prophet V3, you’re greeted by a photorealistic representation of the first Prophet 5 hardware (there’s even a conductor protruding from the highest of the GUI).

The look isn’t all that have Arturia nailed: the sound is extremely convincing, although we’d be hard-pressed to mention which Rev we were hearing.

The two banks of presets that are copied from Sequential’s own factory patches have all of the character that made the important thing a trade book .

All the old favourites are here – beefy basses, swept sync leads and goofy effects – and that they come courtesy of the now-familiar Prophet signal path.

There’s a pair of syncable oscillators, a 24dB resonant filter, a few of envelopes and an LFO. most significantly , the Arturia Prophet V3 offers the notorious ‘cross mod’ functions of the first (these account for its popularity as a provider of bizarre special FX).

The VS model features all of the original’s wavetables and its vector joystick, which may be wont to blend the four selectable waveforms.

However, Arturia has upped the ante a touch by providing a selectable multimode filter. Again, all of the authentic factory patches are here, so you get oh-so-80s choirs, ringing bells, and sweeping vector pads.

How does Arturia Prophet V3 compare to Arturia Prophet VS?

If we were judging the 2 emulations individually, we’d say that we actually prefer the VS. Let’s face it: analogue polysynths are a dime a dozen, and lots of of them boast the features that originated on the P5.

However, the crystalline, digital timbres offered by the VS represent a pleasant change – even as they did when the important synth was released during Sequential’s death throes.

Ultimately, though, the important power of the Arturia Prophet V3 lies in its ability to combine and match the 2 vintage models.

For example, you’ll sync the VS oscillators to the Prophet 5’s, and therefore the modulation matrix combines sources and destinations for both instruments.

When you throw the built-in chorus and delay effects into the combination , you get an instrument that’s far greater than its combined constituent components.

As powerful because the Arturia Prophet V3 is, it isn’t easily . There are tons of volume discrepancies between patches and that we heard a couple of clicks at the start of some sounds.

We’ve already discussed the CPU consumption, but we also feel that the general performance are often very sluggish sometimes , especially when changing between different modes.

At the top of the day, the Arturia Prophet V3 sounds excellent indeed, but you ought to fully explore the alternatives before you distribute it.
