For countless producers, Maschine has been the heartbeat of their creative process, blending intuitive hardware control with a powerful software environment. The latest update, Maschine 3.2.0, refines this experience even further, introducing key improvements that streamline your workflow, enhance your compositional precision, and make sharing your music easier than ever. This isn’t just an update; it’s a commitment to making your music production journey more seamless and inspiring.

What’s New in Maschine 3.2.0: Core Improvements

Maschine 3.2.0 brings a suite of powerful enhancements designed to make your creative life easier and more efficient. These updates focus on improving the synergy between your hardware and software, offering greater control, clarity, and convenience.

Enhanced Piano Roll for Intuitive Composing

The Piano Roll in Maschine 3.2.0 receives significant upgrades, making MIDI composition and editing more intuitive and visually harmonized across both software and hardware.

  • Piano Roll Lightguides: Experience the same visual feedback you get from your Kontrol S-Series keyboard directly within the Maschine desktop Piano Roll. This means:
    • Clearly defined keyswitch zones with responsive feedback on both software and hardware. No more guessing when programming articulations or navigating complex layered instruments.
    • Increased confidence when arranging intricate parts, ensuring you hit the right keyswitch every time.
  • Visible Play Assist Scales: Stay perfectly in key with the active Play Assist scale now highlighted directly in the Maschine software Piano Roll.
    • The active scale is visibly highlighted in both the software and hardware Piano Rolls, providing an immediate visual reference.
    • This feature activates when a pad controller is connected or when using an NI keyboard with the scale engine enabled, ensuring better alignment between your playing and visual feedback.
    • Note: While you can now see the scale, setting or changing scales directly from the Maschine 3 software Piano Roll is not yet available in this update.
  • Hover Note Info: Streamline your editing process by simply hovering over notes in the Piano Roll to display immediate contextual information:
    • Standard notes show their precise note name (e.g., C3).
    • Keyswitch notes display their specific keyswitch label.
    • This small but mighty addition makes managing even the densest arrangements significantly easier and reduces guesswork.

Flexible Audio Takes with Per-Pattern Assignment

Previously, changing an audio take would affect all patterns using the same Audio Plugin. Maschine 3.2.0 introduces Per-Pattern Take Assignment for Audio Plugins, giving you unprecedented control over your arrangement without disrupting unrelated parts of your project.

  • Focused Take Changes: Now, changing the Take from the Recorder panel (desktop) or Sampling page (hardware) will only affect the currently focused Pattern.
  • Independent Patterns: Other Patterns remain untouched, allowing for nuanced looping and arrangement variations across your project without unintended global changes.
  • Accurate Source Values: “Source length” and “source tempo” values will always reflect the currently assigned Take, ensuring precision. If no Take is explicitly assigned to a pattern, these values will be based on the currently selected Take in the Recorder panel/sampling page.

Why this matters: This enhancement perfectly supports modern workflows, especially those incorporating Bounce-in-Place, where multiple Takes naturally emerge per pattern. It grants greater flexibility without compromising performance, as consistent tempos across recordings help avoid CPU spikes.

Convenient MP3 Export

Sharing your musical ideas just got easier. Maschine 3.2.0 now allows you to export your audio directly as MP3 from both the desktop software and (coming soon in an upcoming release) Maschine+ hardware. This is ideal for quickly sharing sketches, demos, or stems due to smaller file sizes.

  • MP3 is now available directly in the File > Export Audio… menu on desktop.
  • Choose from supported bitrates: 96, 128, 192, and 320 kbps.
  • Note: MP3 export is exclusively available when Maschine is running in standalone mode, not as a plugin.

Benefits That Power Your Creativity

Maschine 3.2.0 isn’t just about new features; it’s about solving common production pain points and empowering you to create more efficiently and intuitively.

  • Accelerated Workflow & Intuitive Editing: The enhanced Piano Roll, with its lightguides and hover note info, drastically speeds up MIDI editing and composition. You’ll spend less time guessing and more time creating, making your workflow smoother and more enjoyable.
  • Greater Creative Control: Per-Pattern Take Assignment unlocks new levels of flexibility for audio manipulation within your arrangements. Experiment with different vocal takes, drum loops, or sound design elements per pattern without fear of global changes, fostering more nuanced and dynamic compositions.
  • Seamless Hardware-Software Integration: The visual alignment between the software Piano Roll and Kontrol S-Series lightguides creates a more cohesive and natural production environment, bridging the gap between your physical and digital workspace.
  • Efficient Sharing & Collaboration: The direct MP3 export option simplifies the process of sharing your work. Send demos, collaborate with artists, or quickly upload ideas without needing external conversion tools, saving you time and hassle.
  • Increased Confidence in Composing: Knowing you’re always in key with the visible Play Assist scales and having clear keyswitch information reduces guesswork and boosts your confidence during the creative process, allowing you to focus purely on musical expression.
