Serato DJ Pro 5.0 is officially here. The first of the new upgrades, and perhaps most notably, is that the beatgrid detection algorithm has been massively improved. Lucid Beatgrids is Serato’s completely rebuilt analysis engine. Serato DJ accurately reads your track’s fluctuating BPMs, mapping every tempo change automatically so you may never have to touch the grid again. To get started with Lucid Beatgrids, you’ll need to re-analyze any tracks you want to use with the improved functionality. To re-analyze select tracks, you can now use the right-click function on any track in your library. Analyze files will run a full analysis on the track, while set beatgrids will re-analyze the grid. You can also drag tracks onto the analyze files button to run a full analysis the same way.
You now have two options when analyzing your beatgrids: the new flexible beatgrids, which are on by default, or the traditional fixed beatgrids. Our new flexible beatgrids move with your track, noting any tempo changes. Flexible is built to handle pretty much any style, from straight-ahead house to classic funk, rock, and other live-feel tracks. If you ever want a simpler, more rigid grid, just switch to fixed. For those who prefer fixed grids, even constant BPM tracks benefit from the improved analysis model. You can try different analysis settings depending on the track. You can select whether your beatgrids are bar-level or beat-level accurate. Bar-level is the default setting, which enables tight sync on flexible tracks. Switch to beat-level for even tighter sync. Do note that the beatgrid editor always displays beat-level as it shows the full-resolution beatgrid.
The new warp markers can be adjusted or slipped using the grid edit controls. You can adjust the beat or bar warp markers for maximum beatgrid accuracy. We also have new tempo change indicators called waveform BPM labels. These will indicate changing BPMs at each warp marker. You can select whether you want to have these shown on all BPM changes, major BPM changes only, or turn them off completely. This next track starts at 75 BPM and, after eight bars, speeds up to 100 BPM. Typically, you’d have to set multiple markers, but the new flexible grids detect the changes and set the waveform BPM labels in the right place. Please note that if you revert to a version of Serato DJ before 5.0, you’ll find your previous beatgrids completely untouched.
DJs can now enable and use multiple streaming services simultaneously inside Serato DJ 5.0. Serato DJ Pro supports Apple Music, Beatport, SoundCloud, Spotify, and Tidal. All services are logged in, visible, and accessible from a single library view. No more switching between providers. Enabling multiple providers at once is now available in the setup menu. Just click which one you want to show and ensure you’re logged in. You can now see all the services in the column on the left of the main library listed alphabetically. There’s a new search drop-down in the search menu to toggle which provider you’re searching. Clicking into a provider’s playlist automatically toggles search to that provider. BPM and key data are now displayed for streaming tracks before analysis, making track selection and preparation faster. This is available on select streaming partners. Tidal and SoundCloud now display provided key and BPM, if available. Alongside this, 5.0 lets you enable the “Tidal for DJs” playlists, providing a curated starting point when browsing Tidal directly in Serato DJ.
Cue loops allow you to combine a cue point and a loop into a single action. This is great for things like looping a track’s intro or outro while mixing. This is off by default, so go into the setup screen to enable cue loops. Please note that this feature is only available in Serato DJ Pro. Load a track, set a loop, and while the loop is active, hit any empty cue slot. A cue loop is then saved to that slot. Trigger it later, and the playhead jumps to the cue while the loop fires at the same time. The loop in a cue loop can be turned on or off with a dedicated loop button on hardware.
Also included in Serato DJ Pro 5.0 is a new iOS transfer feature to support the launch of Serato DJ for iOS. With iOS transfer, you’ll be able to easily transfer your music and crates with all the important information from your laptop to your iPhone or iPad. The iOS music transfer option shows up when Serato DJ Lite or Pro is open on both the laptop and the device you’re transferring to. Transfer crates or individual tracks, including track labels like cues, loops, BPM, key, and other information. Drag and drop from the computer to your mobile. Music will transfer via AirDrop, via Wi-Fi if the devices are on the same network, or by connecting a USB cable to your computer.
