Cherry Audio has seriously outdone themselves with Chroma, their new virtual instrument that brings the iconic 1982 Rhodes Chroma polyphonic analog synthesizer kicking and screaming into the modern age. And let me tell you, it was well worth the wait!

This thing is a beast, packing an insane amount of parameters into one plugin. The original hardware was famous for its depth and complexity, and Cherry Audio has gone above and beyond to meticulously model every nook and cranny. They’ve even managed to make all those knobs and sliders more user-friendly with handy pop-up menus and visualizers.

But what really puts Chroma over the top is the brilliant “double mode” which essentially gives you two Chromas in one plugin – either layered for massive sounds or split across the keyboard. Talk about getting your money’s worth!

The amount of different tones you can conjure up is just mind-blowing. Everything from warm, vintage pads and leads to aggressive, psychedelic basses and synth lines. The modulation capabilities are second to none, allowing you to add loads of movement and expression.

My only gripe is that with great power comes great responsibility for your CPU… This is not a plugin you’ll want to load up multiple instances of willy-nilly. But for sketching ideas or laying down final tracks, Chroma delivers that unmistakable analog grit and uniqueness that’s been missing from the digital landscape.

If you’re a synth head looking to add something truly special to your sonic palette, or just a music maker after extremely fat, dynamic, and distinctive sounds, you absolutely need Chroma in your plugin folder. The cherry on top of Cherry Audio’s consistently excellent lineup of vintage revisited instruments.
