SAMUEL is a console-style channel strip. A preamp stage gives the signal its colour, a gate cleans it up, a feedback compressor controls it and a four-band equalizer with high- and low-pass filters shapes it — and one switch decides whether the compressor works before the equalizer or after it. The MASTER section at the bottom sets the level in and out and carries a display that shows whichever stage you are working on.
It is built to be used the way a desk is used: on every track. SAMUEL reports zero latency and uses no look-ahead, so it can sit on fifty channels of a session, or on a live input, without anything for your host to compensate.
At a glance
Preamp Saturation
Two voicings, MIC and LINE, and a drive that changes the colour, not the volume. The stage runs oversampled.
A Console Gate
Threshold, range, release, a FAST attack and HYST, so a decaying tom does not chatter on the threshold.
A Feedback Compressor
The ratio grows as the compression deepens, up to a limiter. Side-chain high-pass, stereo LINK and a MIX knob for parallel compression.
Four Bands, Always In
Two shelves and two bells, ±17 dB. At its centre a band adds exactly nothing, so there is nothing to switch on and off. ÷3 and ×3 move the bells.
Either Order
C→EQ puts the compressor before the equalizer or after it — or, with SC INT, takes the equalizer out of the audio path and lets it steer the compressor instead: a de-esser in one click.
A Display for Every Stage
Meters with peak readouts and five views: harmonics, gating, compression, the EQ curve and the output spectrum.
