Red Queen 10-Band 3-Mode Equalizer, brought to you by LAB:ONE RECORDINGS, is a totally new powerhouse EQ for the rack.

10 Bands, 3 Modes, 9 filter types and various internal processing paths are at your disposal, plus the ability to record non-destructive MIDI automation with the additional Consort MIDI Recording Control Unit, Red Queen has far more to offer than most.

Red Queen 10-Band 3-Mode Equalizer, brought to you by LAB:ONE RECORDINGS, is a totally new powerhouse EQ for the rack; a unit designed to cover all your possible needs, including colouring your sound to give it character, surgical corrective work for those tricky frequencies, and to become a creative filtering device for those extra special effects.

10 Bands, 3 Equalizer Modes, 9 filter types, and up to 6* internal processing paths per EQ mode are at your disposal, plus the ability to record non-destructive MIDI automation with the additional Consort MIDI Recording Control Unit, Red Queen has far more to offer than most – totalling more than 800 controls under the hood, Red Queen is one for your toolbox, whatever you use her for – totally your freedom to colour, control and create.

Master Controls are also available to effect globally your audio signals:

FEED INPUT: pre-EQ input feed trim control, ranging from -60dB to +30dB, to ensure your original signal is up to level

GAIN OUTPUT: from -60dB to +30dB to confidently control your final output

WET/DRY: from full effect of the EQ and filters to back-to-original-signal and everything in between

SCALE: with a range of +-200%, this affects how much your filter gains are affected, so either at default (+100%), double strength (+200%), or EQ curve inversion so your EQ curve is completely the opposite (positive gains become negative, negative becomes positive)

HI CUT and LOW CUT FILTERS: ranging from 20Hz to 20kHz, and with slope controls from 6dB to 36dB, allowing smooth filter roll off the frequencies.

EQUALIZER CHANNEL: allows access to the controls for the specifically chosen EQ ‘channel’, so you can hot-swap between settings, and recall when you come back – 20 possible channels

EQUALIZER MODE: this sets the mode of Red Queen, and also indicates which channels effect the signal. 13 possible modes are available, incorporating standard stereo-linked controls, separated stereo controls, mid-side linked controls and mid-side unlinked controls, for total signal path manipulation

MODE 1: GRAPHIC EQUALIZATION: 10 bands with 5 frequencies per band and 3 resonance settings per band are available, plus the option to select the one of nine filter types per band; ideal for colouring your sound during mixing or mastering stages. There are 6 possible signal processing routes available for Graphic Equalization:

  • STEREO LINKED (both left and right channels processed as one)
  • LEFT / RIGHT (independent signal processing)
  • MID / SIDE (independent mid & side processing)
  • MID L / MID R / SIDE (independent MID Left and MID Right manipulation and SIDE processed)
  • MID / SIDE L / SIDE R (independent SIDE Left and SIDE Right manipulation and MID processed)
  • MID L / MID R / SIDE L / SIDE R (totally independent MID Left, MID Right, SIDE Left and SIDE Right controls for complete MID-SIDE-LEFT-RIGHT signal manipulation)

MODE 2: PARAMETRIC EQUALIZATION: 10 bands with a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz for each band, free-setting resonance controls (ranging between 0.5Q = 2.5 octave to 32Q = 1/22nd octave), plus the option to select one of nine filter types per band; a perfect solution to manage your key frequency areas and ideal for corrective and filtering tasks. There are 6 possible signal processing routes for Parametric Equalization:

  • STEREO LINKED (both left and right channels processed as one)
  • LEFT / RIGHT (independent signal processing)
  • MID / SIDE (independent mid & side processing)
  • MID L / MID R / SIDE (independent MID Left and MID Right manipulation and SIDE processed)
  • MID / SIDE L / SIDE R (independent SIDE Left and SIDE Right manipulation and MID processed)
  • MID L / MID R / SIDE L / SIDE R (totally independent MID Left, MID Right, SIDE Left and SIDE Right controls for complete MID-SIDE-LEFT-RIGHT signal manipulation)

MODE 3: ZPLANE FILTER EQUALIZATION: 10 bands with a frequency range of 20Hz to 20kHz for each band, free-setting resonance controls (ranging between 0.5Q = 2.5 octave to 32Q = 1/22nd octave), plus the option to select one of nine filter types per band, and a 10 band mod-matrix for setting your two parametric style eq curves and a mod wheel control to interpolate (aka morph) between filter frequency, filter resonance, filter gain and filter type (yes filter type!) – the perfect solution for creative filtering and morphing. ZPlane filtering is only available as stereo processing.

The 9 filter types available for each band are:

LP – Low Pass filter
LS – Low Shelf filter
EQ – Peaking filter (boost/cut at centre frequency)
HS – High Shelf filter
HP – High Pass filter
AP2 – All Pass filter type 2
AP1 – All Pass filter type 1
BP – Band Pass filter
BR – Band Reject filter

These filters when used correctly can create you own custom formants as well as your own phaser bank!

You also get the HEAR EQ control: get to hear what you are adding or taking away from your signal in isolation for the context. Idea for finding sibilance in vocals, or pin-pointing your instruments

Additionally, Consort aids with those MIDI recording controls – link a knob to any of the 420 controls and freely record your MIDI tweaks without affecting your initial EQ settings, or use in conjunction with your EQ setup as an A-B comparison EQ… or dive right in and mess with your Zplane filter start and end points with MIDI and morph your morph**!!

Don’t just take our word for it – check the videos and hear the sound examples for some of the things you can do with Red Queen

Watch out for upcoming tutorial videos on each of the modes of Red Queen, the signal paths available and much more.

up to 6 internal processing paths for Graphic or Parametric modes only. Zplane mode operates on stereo signals only.
** only the available controls will be affected
