You may have heard of the music producer and YouTuber KXVI. He put out a plug-in known as TONEFLX and I think it’s probably one of my new favorite ways to flip samples and loops.
The first claim they make here is that it’ll make your VSTs sound analog instantly. And it’s not that it doesn’t sound analog, but cycling through the presets, it felt more to me as a flipping machine. But, I do think it does add warmth and texture to it as well.
They say TONEFLX is an all-in-one analog style effects plug-in with eight pedals to turn flat digital sounds into warm, textured, and alive tones. It may not sound like much on the surface because they say they only have eight pedals, which is one weakness I do think it has. But, there are a load of presets.
There are two different knobs, unstable and drift. Now, these are going to be the things that help with subtle imperfections and real hardware character. Everything they’re saying here is pretty true. You can build complex effects chains in seconds. There’s advanced mode, which lets you see the pedals and adjust the settings. These are the eight effects in it. Backtrack is a reverse delay effect. Then, Low Freak, it combines downsampling, filtering, and bitcrushing. Time Warp adds vintage tape character to your sound. Then, Overtone provides saturation and distortion. Echoflux is a delay with the freeze effect. Tremolo 10 is a tremolo. Retroverb is a reverb.
This is great for flipping samples and loops.
I basically found a loop I wanted to use with it, but I wanted to flip it. Honestly, I don’t know if I would have made this part of the song without TONEFLX. Or if I did, it would have come out very differently. This took it in a whole ‘nother direction. But what I really like about TONEFLX are all the presets. They’ve really gotten their mileage out of these eight effect pedals that it has inside of it.
I do find it a little bit clunky. It’s a little bit hard to micromanage.
I don’t think you can duplicate these effects. That’s another downside, too. So, if you wanted to have more than one of one of these effects in here, you would have to make another instance of TONEFLX. But if you could like stack things in here, that would be cool.
Honestly, I’ve had a lot of use of it thus far.
